Reflection to the course

After attending these 3 workshops, I found that they could boost my architectural design further more. Unlike the design studio or the construction course, I could develop my imaginative ideas throughout the workshops. I could also brainstorm the ideas better.

For the Material Modeling workshop, I could practice more in my model making skills and understood more about the importance of communicating my design ideas to the others. I learnt the movement of architectural space through the Architectural in Motion workshop. It could help me to think more on the spaces in my design and further studies. Moreover, the Fluid Thoughts workshop boosted my drawing skills and the imagination in surrounding areas.

By combining the skills I learnt, I found that it is useful and I gained a lot through the courses. Overall, I enjoyed the course a lot.

Round 3 Fluid Thoughts

Beginning:
It was similar to Architectural in Motion in sometimes. It was required to make some sequences and movement of architectural spaces. Through some methods like the use of overlapping and repeating, some special drawings came out as result.

At the beginning, I was asked to go to Opera House to draw the look of the House without the sky. I used the strategies of overlapping and repeating to do it. I rubbed out some of the heavy lines and added some soften lines to create the depths of the images. I was also needed to keep moving sometimes and add some extra drawing on top of the images. Here's my work:

On processing work:
I also needed to keep drawing the interior and exterior environment throughout the weeks. These drawings were drawn with the difference of tones and movement. I found that it helped to further develop my drawing skills and the imagination skills during this workshop. Here's the example of my drawing:

I was also needed to draw some images during the lesson. I drew the still image like Opera House. I also drew the landscape of the outside of the Red Centre. During the process, I was asked to choose 1 of the building and added on top of the drawing by the use of overlapping and repetition. It showed the movement of the architectural forms and sequence of drawing:

<--Image turned due to blogger problem. Sorry for that.

I was also asked to drawing an image from the others verbal communication. I followed the description and I drew it out:

Quote: " A narrow long space, you are standing in the middle of the space looking into a series of piercings in the wall, leading to smaller and smaller spaces. The main light source is coming from behind you, fading as it leads through the different piercings"

There was also a collaborative interior drawing by groups. Here's the w
orking of our group. The drawing collage was referring to the interior space of Red Centre.

Final submission:
A standing folio for the drawings throughout the course.

42 Drawings during the weeks:

Round 2 Architecture in Motion

Beginning:
It had given a set of 5 images for doing the film. With the use of the images, I had to use my imagination to explore the transfer of architectural spaces and the transaction of scenes. I also needed to use 3 of the 10 words to describe my architectural spaces/ how I explored the space. Here's the word I chose:

Ineffable

Diaphanous

Filigree

One of my still drawings: I drew it from the basic image provided to us.

In process:
I have to use a model as a kit to help in my movie submitted. This is the model I made:

After that, I have to imagine how it is going and the spaces in between. I drew some of the stills and sketches as a developing process:

During the week, I handed-in the on processing work but it was not working well. The actual exploration was not done well. It was difficult to see the change of architectural spaces and the linking of the film. I talked and discussed with my tutors and they gave me some feedback for doing it better. Here's the 1st film I handed-in:

I understood my problem for my first submission. I made the design with more imagination and I tried to think how it linked together. I made another set of stills and this time it was much better than before:

Here's the final submission of my movie:

Round 1 Modeling

Overview:
I was asked to make some imagination on the existing house. I made a model of the flat and I started to develop my idea.

Some images of the apartment I chose.
It is an ordinary apartment and the space is quite small.

The view for outside, it is the main theme I would like to make use. It is because the view outside is beautiful and broad. When I see through the windows, I found that is comfortable.

On processing work:
I decided to raise my model as I would like to increase the interior space of my apartment. The way I do is using the idea from Zaha. I used some abstract form to build the model, i.e. extension of the building. It is because I would like to make it more dynamic instead of the "blocky" apartment. Large windows are used as for full use of view and natural light outside. I used the staircase to connect each level together as for make full use of space.

Final product:
I changed the whole plan of the original spatial partition. It had achieved the idea of increasing spatial partition and better of view.

Despite to the model making, I also made a photo collage that response to my design. The images were the architectural space I chose. In order to response to the design, I drew something on it and those drawings were totally related to my model and images.
